Man Overboard

The house explores a playful way of living, one that reimagines and celebrates living within the form of the landscape and seascape beyond. Looking up from Karaka Bay, or viewing the house from the shipping channel, the dominant faces are painted with the international maritime signal for “man overboard”. The structure steps down the hill over four levels in a series of 3 x 3 x 3m units, offset and at times cut at 45° angles, essentially resulting in a chiseled cube then with the challenge of the exterior reflecting the inner spaces. While exploratory in its form, it is humble in its proportions, true in its geometry, gentle in its simplicity, and beautiful in its alignment.
